Tracheostomy Tube Uncuffed ! Manufacturer and Exporter ! Medisafe International
An uncuffed tracheostomy tube is a hollow, curved tube inserted directly into the trachea (windpipe) through a stoma that does not feature an inflatable balloon (cuff) at its lower end. It provides a secure airway while allowing air to flow both through the tube and around it through the upper airway.
Key Features & Design
- Smooth Outer Shaft: Lacks the inflatable cuff, pilot balloon, and inflation line found on cuffed models.
- Open Airflow Design: Because there is no tracheal seal, air can pass both through the lumen of the tube and around the outer shaft of the tube through the upper airway.
- Component Assembly: Typically includes an outer cannula, neck flange, removable inner cannula (for easy cleaning and maintenance), and an insertion obturator.
Primary Clinical Indications & Uses
- Spontaneous Breathing: Ideal for stable, non-ventilated patients who can breathe on their own or require minimal ventilator support.
- Airway Weaning & Decannulation: Used as a transitional device when stepping down patients from cuffed tubes toward eventual tracheostomy removal.
- Secretion Clearance: Provides direct tracheal access for suctioning and mucus management in patients with a mature stoma who can swallow safely.
- Speech Facilitation: Allows exhaled air to travel around the tube, across the vocal cords, and through the mouth and nose, making natural speaking easier and allowing compatibility with speaking valves (e.g., Passy Muir Valve).
