- Tracheal lumen – Opens in the trachea (ventilates the non-dependent lung).
- Bronchial lumen – Extends into the mainstem bronchus (ventilates the dependent lung).
- Cuffs:
- Tracheal cuff (proximal) – Seals the trachea.
- Bronchial cuff (distal) – Seals the bronchus.
- Types (Left vs. Right):
- Left DLT (most common) – Bronchial lumen sits in the left main bronchus.
- Right DLT – Shorter bronchial lumen due to the right upper lobe bronchus origin.
- Sizes:
- Adults: 35F, 37F, 39F, 41F (selected based on patient anatomy).
- Pediatric: Rarely used; alternatives like bronchial blockers are preferred.
